No matter how well you've planned, emergencies do happen.  What should you do in case of an emergency while you are traveling?

First of all make sure you have all your important papers with you - not packed with your household goods.  Numbers for the Command Duty Office, and your sponsor can be invaluable in case of an emergency while in transit.

NAVY ONE SOURCE:  The Navy One Source is a valuable resource - Real help.  Anytime, anywhere.  Whether you're preparing for a new baby, dealing with relationship issues, prearing for deployment and reunion, getting out of debt, or buying your first car, Navy One Source can help.  We will provide a customized response, whatever your needs are.  The service is no cost to you, and is confidential.  We're here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days year.  Language translation services are available.  Phones are answered live by Masters level consultants, no answering machines or phone trees.  Customized information and referrals are available for each Sailor and/or family member's unique requirements.  The Navy One Source augments Fleet and Family Support Center services.

The American Red Cross is always available for emergency aid anywhere you may be. Contact the nearest chapter (phone numbers are usually listed in the white pages of the local phone directory).  They can sometimes help with emergency financial assistance and contacting individuals that will need to know where you are and what's happening.The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society can provide emergency financial assistance based upon need.

The American Red Cross can also help in times of emergency.  Quick communications with home about family emergencies is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including verification of death or serious illness of immediate family, birth announcements to fathers deployed overseas, and health and welfare reports resulting from a lack of communication over a long period of time.

Categories of financial assistance include:  Basic living expenses (food, shelter, utilities), medical not covered by TRICARE, dental not covered by Dependent Dental Plan, funeral expenses, emergency transportation, essential car repairs, pay and allotment problems, disasters and assistance for widows, and educational scholarships.  Servicemembers should contact Navy and Marine Corps Relief Society for an evaluation of their situation.

The Chapel onboard the Air Station maintains a food locker for emergencies.  All they ask is when the service member gets back on their feet they replenish the supply!
