While there is often some overlap between "Pre-school" and "Child Care", this section provides information about off-base, part-day, educational programs for pre-school age children.  Parents needing information for childcare should refer to the "Family Issues" category of this file.
Parents needing information for special needs children should refer to the "Education-Special Education" topic.
Parents needing information for on-base pre-school should refer to the "Education-Installation-Preschool" topic.

San Felipe-Del Rio Consolidated Independent School District has a half-day pre-kindergarten program is available for children who are at least 4 years old on September 1 and who are eligible because they cannot speak/understand English, because they are homeless or in foster care, or because they are economically disadvantaged. If you think your child/ren are eligible, contact the school principal.

Head Start and Early Head Start
Head Start and Early Head Start are comprehensive child development programs that serve children from birth to age 5, pregnant women, and their families. They are child-focused programs and have the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children in income-eligible families.

Many churches offer a pre-school program.  Please refer to the "Contact/Links" for contact information.

The Laughlin AFB Child Development Center (CDC) offers comprehensive age-appropriate activities for ages six weeks through five years of age.  Children are separated by age and supervision ratios are set by DoD.  The CDC requires a registration package for each child including an AF Form 1181 to be completed with proof of all required immunizations prior to the start of any CDC program.  All fees are based on the combined family income.  Hourly care is on a space available basis.

The Child Development Center (CDC) opens on Saturday a month for the Air Force Aid Society funded GIVE PARENTS A BREAK program.  The program targets military families under stress, separated due to deployment, and single parents.  Eligibility for the program requires a written referral from a Commander, First Sergeant, Chaplain, Family Advocacy, CDC, physician, or finally, the Family Support Center.  Parents not eligible for the Air Force Aid Society program may use the facility on a space available basis for PARENTS NIGHT OUT ($3.50 per hour).

The CDC's business hours are 6:30 am-5:30 pm; you may contact them at 830-298-5419 or DSN 732-5419.

Brackettville, Comstock, and Eagle Pass have a few Pre-Schools as well.  For more information on Pre-Schools, you can go to "Contact/Links" or "Quick Links" and visit "Schools."
