The Kirtland AFB Youth Center has a wide variety of classes and
activities for children 6-18 years of age. They publish a calendar every month
and offer a before and after school program. If you would like to find out more

The FSC offers a Smooth Moves for Kids' Workshop every
quarter to assist in providing a smooth transition for children. A craft
activity, group discussion regarding moving, and a light snack are offered.
YOUTH EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES Dial-A-Teen is a program supported by the
New Mexico Department of Labor. Please look in the contacts to find the address
and telephone number. This program assist teens who are available to
work odd hours and want to earn a steady income, find work (full-time or
part-time). Such jobs are in the categories of shop helpers, labors,
stockers, maintenance, and yard workers.
SUMMER JOBS offers summer hire
jobs. Applications for these positions are usually accepted from
February 20 thru April 1. These jobs are in the areas of clerical,
technical, as well as trade and labor positions. Applicants must be
at least 16 years of age when hired.
AAFES hires youth for positions;
such as, stocking, laborer and custodian. Applicant has to be 16
years old, (during school year, high school students are only allowed to work
until 2200). Wages are approximately $5.40 per hour depending on position.
COMMISSARY - The Kirtland AFB Commissary has positions for teen
baggers. Requirements are a valid ID card. Baggers work
for tips.
Restricted Instruction Permits are available for those 14
years old and older. One must pass a vision screening and be enrolled in an
approved driver education course that includes DWI education and prevention
component. A restricted instruction permit allows one to drive only
within designated areas and only if an approved instructor is riding
along.
Learner's Permit - For those 15 years old and older. A
vision screening and written test is required. A learner's permit
allows one to drive on New Mexico streets and highways in a vehicle of the class
for which the permit is issued. A driver, licensed in a similar class
or higher, must occupy the seat beside you in the vehicle. This
requirement applies to all vehicles except motorcycles.
A driver license
may not be issued to anyone under the age of 16 except: (1) students
14 years old who are enrolled in and attending an approved driver education
program may be issued a restricted instruction permit or license; (2) students
15 years old who have satisfactorily completed an approved driver education
program may be issued a license; and (3) students 13 years old or older who pass
an examination may be issued a restricted license to operate a motorcycle with a
motor no larger than 100 cc.
Applying for Your First New Mexico Driver
License: If you are less than 18 years old, you must provide proof
that you have successfully completed a driver's education course that included a
DWI prevention and education program approved by the Traffic Safety Bureau or
offered by a public school. If you are at least 18 years old and are a new or
returning resident in New Mexico or have never applied for a license, New Mexico
statute requires that you successfully complete a DWI awareness training
program.
Documents needed to apply for your first license.
(1) Proof of Age and Identification (2) Social Security Number (3) Driver
Education Certificate (4) Parent or Guardian - If you are under 18 years old,
you must have a parent's or guardian's signature on any application for a
license or permit. Your parent or guardian must be willing to assume
financial responsibility if you cause injury or damage by negligence or willful
misconduct as a driver while you are a minor. Applicants who are
under 18 years old, and who claim to emancipate through marriage or through a
court order, must present the original or a certified copy of the marriage
certificate or court order of emancipation.
