Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) is based on geographic duty
location, pay grade, and dependency status. The intent of BAH is to provide
uniformed service members accurate and equitable housing compensation based on
housing costs in the local civilian housing markets, and is payable when
government quarters are not provided.
Members who relocate their family
to the Key West area will receive BAH based on the Key West rates. When family
arrives in the area, the family separation pay entitlement also stops. Members
who are authorized to relocate their family, but choose, not to, will receive
BAH for the Key West area.
All members are required to provide a lease to
disbursing verifying actual housing costs. They must report when costs, numbers
of people sharing expenses, or dependency status changes. BAH is not paid to the
member if you choose to live in base housing.
