MONTESSORI AND VIRGINIA PRESCHOOL INITIATIVE:
Arlington Public
Schools offers a Montessori program for 3- to 5-year-olds at seven locations on
a sliding scale fee. Arlington Public Schools also offers a
4-year-old preschool program, the Virginia Preschool Initiative (VPI), a program
funded by Arlington Public Schools and the State of Virginia. The VPI
program is located at nine elementary schools. This program is
available for children who qualify for the Federally Funded Free and
Reduced-Price Lunch Program. Children must be 4 years old by
September 30th.
FAMILY AND EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION
(HEADSTART):
Through the Family and Early Childhood Education (Head Start)
program, parents, other volunteers, and community professionals work with school
staff members to provide comprehensive services that meet children's
educational, health, nutritional, social, and emotional needs. The program
serves approximately 1,150 students, aged three through five, in classrooms
located in 48 schools. The program provides services to children from birth to
three years of age and to expectant mothers at the Early Head Start Center in
the Reston area.
