If you live on Fort Myer, your children will attend the Arlington
County Long Branch Elementary School. There are no schools located on
Fort Myer. The Arlington County Elementary schools maintain a Student
to Teacher Ration of 11:1 (2002-03).
Arlington Public schools offer a
variety of before and after school programs. The Elementary schools
offer the Extended Day program from 7 a.m. to the start of school and then again
after school to 6 p.m. Fees are based on a sliding scale.
Most school districts have a policy that you must live within the
boundaries of a specific school for your children to be eligible to
attend. Check on the website of a school district and look for
Boundaries. Type in your local address and it will tell you what
schools your children are assigned to attend. Usually documents such
as rental contract or a utility bill with your address printed on it will be
needed when registering to verify your address. In some cases, school
districts will take a few families from a waiting list and allow them to pay
tuition to attend their school. So make sure you check the schools
where you want to live. Additional information on this subject is listed under
"Contacts/links".
The School Age Services (SAS) program is National
Accredited by the National School-Age Care Alliance and certified by the
Department of Defense. The program is conducted at the Youth Services
Center which includes before school care, after school care and full day care on
non-school days to include winter, spring and summer camp programs during school
breaks. SAS provides youth with positive experience through
individual and group activities with adults and peers that compliment rather
than duplicate the school day. SAS provides educational and
recreational activities which support the youth's needs. SAS program
includes the addition of a computer and homework center with qualified
instructors for the youth.
