MOTOR VEHICLE/DRIVERS LICENSE/REGISTRATION INFO
You may drive in Florida without getting a Florida driver's license if you hold a valid driver's license from your home state.  A Florida driver's license is required of any driver who becomes a resident of Florida, is employed in Florida, or registers a child in a Florida public school.  Licenses must be obtained within 30 days of the above actions.
New residents are required to pass a visual examination if they have a valid license from another state.  Test appointments are recommended but not needed.  A new license costs $20 and is valid for six years.  License renewal is $15 and replacement cost is $10. Drivers must be at least 16 years old to qualify for a driver's license and 15 to get a restricted learner's permit. The NORTHEAST FLORIDA SAFETY COUNCIL offers Nine Driver Improvement Programs designed to teach students the values of safe and sober driving. These include the Basic Driver Improvement Course (BDI), the Traffic Collision Avoidance Course (TCAC), Advanced Driver Improvement (ADI), Drug, Alcohol Traffic Education Program (DATE), Child Restraint Offenders Program, Step Forward, Driving Under The Influence 1, Driving Under The Influence 2 and Special Supervision Services. It is our belief that well-taught, well-organized classroom experiences can change behavior and result in safer roads for all drivers. SEE THE DETAILED RECORD LISTING FOR OFFICE LOCATIONS for the Driving Course Programs. Florida has a special reduced auto registration fee for drivers who do not intend to establish Florida as their home of record. To get the reduced rate, take a copy of your orders to the local motor vehicle registration office.
