Vehicle Ownership
All motor vehicles and trailers in Florida must be registered and titled. To obtain automobile license plates, the owner of the vehicle must present proof of insurance (PIP) to the Tax Collector's Office.  Also bring a title or copy of the title and a current leave and earning statement.  Plates are issued by birth month for a period of one year.  License plate rates vary according to the weight of the vehicle.  Florida is a no-fault insurance state.  Therefore, it is a requirement that a driver have personal injury protection insurance in the amount of $10,000 and $10,000 in property damage liability.  There must be proof of insurance in the vehicle at all times.  Some out of state companies may be able to transfer your insurance, check with your agent.

Visit the Okaloosa County Tax Office Website listed under "Contacts/Links" for detailed information about registering your vehicle, motorcycle or boat.
