After making a few moves with the military, some young people
become "experts" at moving, but it can still be a stressful time of leaving
friends, worrying about making new friends and dealing with parents who might be
experiencing moving stresses too.
Any child or teen desiring a sponsor
prior to their arrival at Holloman may contact the Airman and Family Readiness
Center (505-572-7754 or DSN 572-7754) or the Youth Center (505-572-3753 or DSN
572-3753). You may also contact the Holloman Relocation Assistance Manager
through the Relocation Assistance Manager at your current base or by notifying
your military sponsor who can make the contact for you.
Once you arrive
at Holloman, try to get a tour of your new school before your first
day. Remember that even though that first day may or may not be a
good one, with each day, you will be become more comfortable and will soon fit
in. Joining a club or activity will be the quickest way to meet
others who share common interests. Young people who are seeking employment
opportunities may contact the Youth Center (505-572-3753 or DSN 572-3753), the
Airman and Family Readiness Center-Employment Assistance Program (505-572-7754
or DSN 572-7754), or the New Mexico Department of Labor
(505-437-9210). In addition to the Holloman AFB Youth Center, there
are organizations for young people in the Alamogordo
community.
Activities for Teens only often involve special interests or
hobbies. Holloman's Relocation Assistance staff may be able to help
you locate a group that shares your interests.
