Excellent Child Care Programs are available on Holloman
AFB.
The Air Force Extended Duty Child Care Program (EDCCP) is a unique
program which offers military members the opportunity to obtain child care
services, beyond the standard 50 hours, at minimal cost for duty-related
responsibilities. Point of contact for this program is the Family
Child Care Coordinator. School Age Care is available both on Holloman
AFB and in Alamogordo. Additional or updated listings may be found in
the Alamogordo phone book yellow pages or by contacting the Holloman Relocation
Assistance Program.
When considering whether to leave children
unsupervised, parents must fully examine what type of help will be available to
the child in the event of any emergency, minor or major. This is
particularly true if the parent will not be in his/her residence or in a
location near the child. Parents should not leave children there
without someone to contact. Playgrounds are not substitutes for
long-term parental supervision. See Installation - Supervision of
Children for guidelines.
Children with a physical, medical,
developmental or educational need, as well as children with hyperactivity
(ADHD), or any other special needs will not be left alone for any length of time
to care for themselves. Whether the special need is mild, moderate,
or severe, these standards should be carefully applied considering each child's
uniqueness.
Holloman AFB offers a Child Development Center and Youth
Activities Center of the finest quality. In addition, the Alamogordo
community has many programs and activities in place for young people. This area
is often cited by military members as "a great place to raise children!"
