PROGRAMS OFFERED AT THE HICKAM
YOUTH CENTER:
1. Pre-teen Program: For youth ages 10-12 years. Some programs
that fall under the pre-teen program include:
--Power Hour: Educational
enhancement program consisting of educational enrichment activities, homework
and tutoring. Held Mon-Thurs from 2:30-3:30 p.m.
--Torch Club: Torch Club
members learn to elect officers and work together to plan and implement
activities in service, education, health and fitness and social recreation.
Meets every Monday at 3:00p.m.
--Fitness Authority: Fitness program that
encourages participants to compete in a club wide pentathlon. Top scoring
participants will advance to regional and national decathlons.
--Ultimate
Journey: Pre-teens will participate in science projects, take field trips and
learn about the environment.
--Smart Girls: Program for girls to develop
healthy attitudes and lifestyles. Sign up is required.
2. Teen Program:
For Youths ages 13-18 years. Some of the programs that fall under the teen
program include:
--Keystone Club: Teens are able to perform service to club
and community, leadership, development, education and career exploration. Meets

--Youth Employment Skills
(YES)Program: On base youth volunteer program designed for high school aged
dependents of AF active duty members. Students may accumulate as much as 250
hours over four years of high school. Applications are available at the Hickam
Teen Center (808) 449-2233.
--Job Ready: Designed to help teens enter the
work force by providing members with skills and knowledge to find work, and
develop job and interpersonal skills.
--Operation Night Hoops: Free
basketball league for teens. Helps build team work, leadership and discipline in
a drug free environment.
--After Dark Teen Program: Night programs include
off-base excursions, basketball, art activities, lock-ins, indoor volleyball,
movies and dances throughout the year.
--Congressional Award: The
Congressional Award is a non-competitive program based on goals achieved through
future activities.
3. Fine Arts & Photography
Contest: Sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club of America, the contest
is for ages 10-18 years. Ten categories for fine arts, and five categories for
photography. Winners are selected from the Hickam AFB Teen Center, then
forwarded to the regional contest.
4. Youth
Sports: Offers a wide array of organized activities year round to
include:
--Baseball
--Wrestling
--Soccer
--Flag
Football
--Cheerleading
--Basketball
The Sports program provides
opportunities for children to have contact with other youths, volunteer leaders,
and youth program staff. All youth sports coaches, assistants and
volunteers are screened and trained utilizing the the National Youth Sports
Coaches Association (NYSCA) guidelines.

(Dated no more than one year at time of
registration)
5. Instructional Classes: There are a number of
instructional classes available to include:
--Music classes (Flute, Piano,
Guitar, Ukulele, Voice Training): For the beginner, intermediate, and advanced
students. Lessons are available in group, semi-private and private classes.
Lesson fees vary from $10-$18.00 per class with payments monthly. Call (808)

--Dance classes (Hula, Creative Ballet,
Hip-Hop, Theatre): Lesson fees vary from $30.00-$40.00 per month. Sign up at the
Community Center (808) 449-3354 or (808) 449-2361.
--Craft Classes (Photo
Scrap-booking Classes): Learn step-by-step method of beginning an album. Advance
workshops offer advanced techniques and uninterrupted crop time. New lessons
offered each month. $15.00 per session. Sign up at the Community
Center.
--Martial Arts Classes (Tae Kwon Do, Karate): Learn self -defense
while building confidence, respect, and discipline in a positive environment.
Tae Kwon Do open for ages 5-adult. Karate open for ages 4-adult. $35.00 per
month. Contact the Community Center for further information.
--Driver's
Education: Offered on the 1st and 3rd Sat of each month from 1030 a.m - 400 p.m.
Cost is $365.00 for 6 week sessions. Contact the Community Center for
further information.
6.Peer Sponsorship: For Youth ages 12-18
only. A peer sponsor will communicate with an in-bound teen before
arrival to answer any questions they may have about the base, schools,
community, etc. Contact Youth Services if your child would like to be contacted
by a Hickam youth sponsor.

7. Youth Fit to Win Program: PACAF Services has developed a Youth
Fit to Win program to get youth ages 9-18 to exercise on a regular basis and
adopt a healthy lifestyle. Youth fit to Win is an on-line base rewards program
for Youth Program members. To become a Youth Program member and/or register for
Fit to Win stop by the Community Center, Teen Center, Gymnastic Center,
Skateboard Hangar or School-Age Program facility today!
8. Skateboard
Center: The skateboard hanger is a one-of-a-kind Skateboard Center-the only one
of its kind in the Air Force. It boasts of the largest keyhole bowl
ramp on the islands. Full safety gear is required for skaters at the park.
Helmets, knee pads, and elbow pads can be rented out, but bring your own
skateboard, roller blades, bikes, in-line skates and scooters. Rental
of safety gear are $2 per item or $5 for all. A daily pass costs $1 and monthly
