PROCEDURE & REQUIREMENTS WHILE IN TLA STATUS
If you have been advised by the Hickam Housing Office that government quarters will not be available within 60 days of your arrival, you will need to find adequate housing in the community. An "adequate search for housing" consists of the following:
(1) At least 15 suitable housing units were looked at by the member or dependent per 15-day period. During the first 15-day period of TLA, at least five units must be looked at.
(2) Each of the 15 units are within the BAQ + OHA +15% out of pocket limits of the member(s) allowances and met the minimum bedroom requirements.
(3) Each of the 15 units are suitable in that each unit met the requirements of the member or family. Example, if the family has a pet, the landlords of the units were willing to rent to families with a pet.
(4) The member or family considers only those units within reasonable commuting time. Units outside the commuting area may be considered if the member or family are willing to travel a longer time or distance.
(5) Non-arrival or lack of personal POV are not valid reasons for failure to look for suitable housing or sign a lease.
