Car Registration:
You have 30 calendar days to register your
vehicle with the Hawai'i Department of Motor Vehicle and Licensing
(DMVL). There are two avenues you can use to register your
vehicle-Temporary or Permanent.
***TEMPORARY***

4. A Hawai'i Insurance Card
5. A Completed
Application for Out-of State Vehicle Permit (DF-L-27) signed by the registered

expiration of your current out-of-state registration whichever occurs first) and
will cost $5.00. When your out-of-state vehicle permit expires, you will need to
register your vehicle permanently.
***PERMANENT***
To obtain Hawai'i
license plates, registration, and title, you will need:
1. A
Non-Resident Certificate (DF-L-50) will exempt you from the Hawai'i motor
vehicle weight tax. The active duty member must be the registered owner or their

orderly room

vehicle registration and renewal transactions for the general
public. The satellites are administered by the City's Customer
Services Department. For general information concerning the
satellites and their services, call (808) 527-6695. Driver's license
offices are also decentralized; for information, call (808) 532-7730.
The
closet Satellite to Hickam AFB is located at Pearlridge Shopping Center.
Car Insurance:
Contact your insurance company for a certificate of
Hawai'i Insurance (be aware that insurance for Hawai'i can run $100 plus per
month). Obtaining reasonable insurance coverage may be difficult,
especially if you are under 25 years of age. You must have proof of Hawai'i
insurance card with your vehicle at all times.
Safety
Inspection:
You have 10 calendar days to complete a vehicle safety inspection
with the Department of Motor Vehicle and Licensing (DMVL). You should
get your vehicle inspected and DoD registered as soon as
possible. For vehicles without a DoD decal, you must show your
military ID, vehicle registration, and insurance card upon entering the
base.
1. The Hawai'i State Vehicle Safety Inspection is an
annual requirement for all motor vehicles including motorcycles and
mopeds. The inspection can be done at any service station, auto
repair shop, and auto and motorcycle dealer displaying the "Official Vehicle
Safety Inspection Station" sign.
2. You must show the
inspector your Hawai'i insurance card and the vehicle's current out-of-state
registration.
3. If the inspector finds defects in your
vehicle, you have 10 days to return to the SAME station for a re-inspection at
no extra charge.
4. Please note: All car windows will be
subject to a "tinting" check. All cars with a tint under 35% will not be given a
safety check.
5. You will get two copies of the inspection
certificate. The yellow copy is for the DMVL and the pink copy is to
be kept in your car.

8 feet long or longer or any boat with a motor, will be required to register

Bring with you the following documentation:
1. If it's a
new boat, a copy of the statement of origin.
2. Older boats will
need a copy of registration.
