Fort Rucker Primary and Elementary Schools comply with all
federal public school special education laws. The goal of the DoDEA
special education program is to ensure students with disabilities acquire
lifelong skills by providing a free appropriate public education in compliance
with the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), DoD Instruction 1342.12 and
32 CFR Part 80. We believe that all children can learn, have equal
access to a high quality education and have the opportunity to perform at higher
levels of achievement.
The DDESS schools are committed to supporting
military families. For those dependents, which have special needs and
require special assistance, the schools will work with parents to ensure that
the dependent(s) needs are met. The schools at Fort Rucker are
currently staffed to support special needs students (ages 3 through 6th grade)
with mild to moderate disabilities in the following categories: physically
imparired, emotionally impaired, communication impaired, learning impaired and
developmentally delayed. Current staff includes specialists in
Speech/Language, Emotionally Impaired, Learning Impaired, and Hearing
Impaired. Counseling support is available, via conduct, include
Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. For children whose needs
are determined to be greater than the schools can adequately serve, local LEA's
may be contracted to assist in meeting the needs of these children.
The
Daleville, Ozark, and Enterprise City School systems provide special education
and related services for students age 3-21 in the following exceptionality
areas: Specific Learning Disabilities; Mental Retardation; Hearing
Impaired; Speech and Language Impaired; Visual Impaired; Emotionally Disturbed;
Orthopedically Impaired; Other Health Impaired; Traumatic Brain Injury;
Developmentally Delayed; Multiple Disabilities; Autism and
Deaf/Blind.
Services not conducted in-house are provided for on a
contract basis. A variety of service delivery options are available
for instruction and services based on the child's Individualized Education Plan
(IEP) written to meet their unique needs.
Vivian B. Adams School offers
programs in day habilitation, sheltered employment, vocational, and educational
programs for school-age children who are mentally retarded. The
school provides outdoor recreational facilities, which include a softball field
and a swimming pool. Transportation is provided for all students and
adult consumers from each of six counties in the area.
