REGARDING STUDENT ENROLLMENT

Alabama law requires a child to be four years old on or before September 1 to enroll in the pre kindergarten program, five years old on that date to enroll in kindergarten for the first time. Transfers from schools in other school systems are usually accepted.

The following documents are needed to register your child in the local schools:

1. Child's birth certificate or proof of age
2. Child's Social Security Number
3. Copies of report cards, unofficial copies of school records or other verification of grade placement and credits earned
4. Blue State of Alabama Certificate of Immunization obtainable at Lyster Army Hospital on Ft. Rucker.

SPECIAL NEEDS EDUCATION

Special needs programs are offered by all of the local schools for children three years of age to students twenty-one years of age. These programs all meet the requirements of No Child Left Behind legislation. Children moving into local programs are usually re evaluated by the Local Education Agency providing the service. Requirements for special needs classes include the following:

1. Referral must be based on sound educational reasons
2. Parents must give permission for testing
3. Tests must be administered by approved personnel
4. Final placement is made by the Eligibility Determination Committee
5. Parents must give permission for placement in classes
