A
WORD TO STUDENT ATHLETES
There are excellent athletic programs in all of
the middle and high schools that serve Ft. Rucker students. Make sure to get
letters of recommendation from your caches and video tape of your performance
from the school you are leaving. Contact the guidance department at the school
you are interested in attending for up-dated, specific information on try out
dates and physical examination requirements. Dates of some try outs are subject
to change because of the weather.
Check with the Alabama High School
Athletic Association's web site for exact information concerning
athletic eligibility. It is possible to loss your eligibility by moving from
school system to system, from living on post to off post or participating in un
authorized athletic events. Check the AHSAA rules carefully then ask specific
questions of the coaches, guidance counselors or School Liaison
Officer.
PRIVATE SCHOOLS
There are six private/Christian
schools in the local area. These schools tend to have a student population of
two hundred or less. Contact the School Liaison Officer for details.
HOME
SCHOOL
There is an active group of home school families on and near Ft.
Rucker. Contact the School Liaison Officer at (334) 255-9812 or
John.Jennings@rucker.army.mil for details.
COLLEGES AND
UNIVERSITIES
There are four post secondary institutions offering classes
on post. These are:
Troy State University Dothan
Embry-Riddle
Aeronautical University
Enterprise Ozark Community College
George C.
Wallace Community College
All of the above institutions are
Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOCADS). Dependants of active duty service
members pay in state tuition while the service member is in residence in the
state of Alabama. Check the School Liaison web site or colleges listed above for
tuition assistance information.
There are off post branches of Troy
State University, George C. Wallace Community College and Enterprise Ozark
Community College and Douglas Mac Arthur Technical College within an hour's
drive of on post housing areas.
All local public schools, colleges and
universities are accredited by the southern Association of Schools and Colleges,
a national regional accrediting agency.
