No matter how well you have planned your move, emergencies do
happen.
Before you leave make sure you have all important papers with you
- not packed with your household goods. Make sure you have important
numbers such as SDO, your Command Duty Office, and your
sponsors. Your sponsor can be invaluable in case of an emergency
while in transit.
The American Red Cross is always available for
emergency aid. Contact the nearest chapter listed in the local phone
directory.
Army Emergency Relief (AER) can provide financial assistance
to meet unforeseen required travel and related maintenance expenses such as
transportation, lodging or food, when applicable due to extraordinary costs
involved with permanent change of station (PCS).Army Emergency Relief

Army Emergency Relief (AER) is a private organization that provides
emergency financial assistance to soldiers and family members. Office
hours are 0730-1615, Monday through Friday. AER is available for
assistance after duty hours through the Staff Duty Officer at (334) 255-3100 or
by calling the AER beeper, (334) 713-3030.
AER can help
with:
a) Food and basic
needs.
b) Initial rent and
deposits.
c) Past due utilities and
deposits.
d) Emergency
travel.
e) Past due POV payment for essential family
POV, insurance and POV repairs.
f) Medical/dental
expenses that have to be paid before service can be
rendered.
g) Funeral
expense.
h) Personal needs when pay is delayed or
stolen.
AER is available to:
a) Active duty
soldiers, single or married, and their family
members.
b) National Guard and Reserve soldiers on
continuous active duty for more than 30 days and their family
members.
c) Soldiers retired from active duty for
longevity or physical disability, and their family
members.
d) National Guard and Reserve soldiers who
retire at age 60, and their
family members.
e)
Surviving spouses and orphans of soldiers who died while on active duty or after
they retired.
Emergency financial assistance is provided in the form of
no interest loans, grants or part loan part grant. Soldier needs to
provide an application signed by the Commander, ID, end of month LES and any
substantiating documentation. Spouses can also apply for assistance
in absence of soldier.
A secondary mission of AER is to provide
educational assistance to unmarried dependent children under the age of 22 who
are enrolled in undergraduate level education, post secondary vocational
training and preparation for acceptance by service academies.

Red Cross
The Red Cross coordinates with surrounding Red Cross Chapters
to provide public information in Disaster and Health & Safety
classes. Works in conjunction with the Armed Forces Emergency
Services Centers (AFESC's) to deliver emergency communications to the
military. Provides an opportunity for interested parties to share
