Elmendorf AFB provides medical services for Fort Richardson
family members. Medical records are checked in and maintained at
Elmendorf. If specialized services are not available, a consult to the Anchorage
medical community will be made. Family members are responsible for
picking up and returning medical records.
All military members must sign
up for TRICARE during in-processing. TRICARE consultants may be
reached by calling (907) 580-6400.
The Dental Clinic will see
family members on an emergency basis only. Contact the
Dental Clinic for a list of preferred dental providers at (907) 384-3706 or DSN
(317) 384-3706. The Concordia Dental Plan provides family member
dental coverage.
All service members who wish to have their family
members accompany them during their assignment to Fort Richardson must have
their family members screened for enrollment in the Exceptional Family Member
Program (EFMP). EFMP screening ensures that any specialized medical
or educational needs can been met at Fort Richardson or in the neighboring
community. During the EFMP screening process, the Army Medical
Activity will locate any specialized medical services that a family member
needs, and if those services are available through military medical facilities
or local Tri-Care providers. The screening process should be
initiated at the current duty station 3-6 months prior to PCS. For
further information, contact the Fort Richardson Army Community Service EFMP
Manager at (907) 384-0225.
Special education needs are available through
the Anchorage School District. The Anchorage School District Special

Center which provides information and materials to parents on a variety of
disabilities. This office can be reached at (907) 742-3872.
