Full time employment is not a problem right now since we've had two hurricanes in this area.  There are jobs to be had locally as well as commuting distance.  However, you have to remember wages usually fall significantly below the national average in this area, but there are plenty of jobs and hours if someone wants to work.  Many jobs in the local area start at minimum wage for some of the clerical and sales positions, you will ahve to decide if this is what you want to do or continue to work at minimum wage until you are called to a better paying position.
The Vernon Parish Workforce Investment Act (WIA), for the Leesville and DeRidder areas, will conduct a summer hire program.  The publicity for this program is through the local high school counselors, technical college, temporary hire services, Civilian Personnel office on Fort Polk and the Louisiana Job Service located in Leesville and DeRidder (both are with in 12 miles of Fort Polk front gate.
Fort Polk usually participates in this summer hire program and is open to all persons who are 16 years of age or older.  Positions are available through civil service and nonappropriated funds.  Employment in these summer hire programs is very limited with many applicants.  The minimum legal, full-time working age is 16 years in the State of Louisiana.  Younger ages are permitted to perform part-time work and volunteer services to gain ON JOB TRAINING with parent or guardian consent.  Permits for high school students to work are usually required from the school principal.
