Toledo Bend Recreation Site - 10022 Army Rec Road, 1-888-718-9088.  
  Beautiful Toledo Bend Lake, located on the Texas-Louisiana border is the largest man-made reservoir in the South and the 5th largest in surface acres in the United States.  Toledo Bends 186,000-acre man-made reservoir, is filled with bass (black and white), stripers, Florida bass, bream, crappie and catfish. (IF YOU LIKE PARTICIPATING in FISHING TOURNAMENTS, YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE!)
  There are 12 two bedroom/two bath mobile homes available for rent at the site.  All mobile homes are fully equipped with sleeper sofas, stove, coffee pots, toasters, utensils, pot and pans, microwaves, central air and heating.  All you have to bring are your towels and bedding (sheets, spread, blankets, etc.).  Bass boats and pontoons boats are ready to run ofr your enjoyment.  After a brief safety class, on site, you'll be ready to be on your way.  Recreation is also available on the mammoth lake with trips to Hodges Gardens, a majestic "Garden in the Forest" filled with magnificent flowers, cascading waterfalls, birds and wildlife, hiking/biking trails and scenic picnic areas.
However, if staying at home is better suited to your taste, the many recreational activities to be found on post will keep you busy also.  The Morale, Welfare and Recreation Division (MWR) provides a wide range of activities designed to enhance soldier's and family member's leisure hours and enjoyment of life at Fort Polk.

Below you will find a listing of various Recreational and After Hours information to keep you busy while you're at Fort Polk.

1.) Alligator Lake Recreation Site, LOCATION: "K" Avenue, North Fort Polk.

  Area offers fishing; pavilions with tables and grills; softball, volleyball, and badminton areas; picnic sites; nature spots; playgrounds; latrines and open areas for recreational activities.  Boats are also available for fishing.  Popular with unit functions and private parties.

2.)  Recreational Shooting Range, Range 23 Alpha, off California Ave

  Facilities available for skeet and trap shooting, pistol and small arms zeroing and a club house.  An ammunition resale and shotgun rental activity is also provided.  Instructional classes available upon request.

3.)  John G. Wheelock Physical Fitness Center, 7755 Georgia Avenue, Bldg 3350.

  Equiped with a rock climbing wall, and everything an expensive membership health club offer - and OURS IS FREE.
Each member must register to join and an easy scan card allows access to all activities and products.  The Wheelock Bayou Classic offers "Gator's Supplement Store" and the Smoothie Bar, and all this can be enjoyed before or after you do your Aqua Massasge.  Frequent users and savvy gift buyers may purchase coupon books.

4.) Fort Polk Dinner Theatre, (adjacent to Sports America), 7090 Alabama Ave.

5.)  Warrior Hills Golf Course, 7001 Patterson Drive(across the street from Bldg. 350, Headquarters) Bldg. 323, (337)531-4661.  
  This challenging 18-hole course boast many elevation changes and water hazards along its lush fairways; PGA certified pro, well stocked and reasonably priced pro shop, expanded chipping and putting green, special packages available for units and groups of all sizes.  

6.)  Stars and Strikes Bowling Center, 2087 9th Street.

  From little tykes to the adults, everyone can have a great time bowling.  Many specials, tournaments, pro shop, snack bar, and video games.

7.)  BOSS - Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers, 6661 Wqrrior Trail, Bldg 350, 4th Floor, West Wing, (337) 531-1948/7187.
  BOSS Program has enhanced the morale of single soldiers through it's numerous activities and special events and concerns.  BOSS sponsors sports, trips, social, Festivals, seminars and workshops, dinner and movies, mall shopping trips, talent shows and much much more.

8.) Catfish Cove - Louisiana Avenue (across the street from Warrior Hills Golf Course and the Welch Magnolia Guest House), (337) 531-5350.
  Fort Polk youngsters have their own fishin' hole and is regularly stocked with channel cats just so the kids can catch them and take them home for dinner.  Adults must accompany children fishing and can only fish if they have a youngster to fish with.  Offers shaded parking, pavillions and picnic facilities.  Sidewalks to the bridge make shore fishing a real pleasure for all youngsters under the age of 16.

9).  Louisiana Park - Play area shares parking with the Cove and can be entered across from the Welch Magnolia Guest House.  Playground modules, swings for toddlers and older children, picnic pavillions and a sand court for vollyball.

10).  Sports America - 7090 Alabama Avenue, Bldg 1454, (337) 531-9446.
  Good place to hang out with friends, watch sporting events and enjoy fresh food and cool beverages at the bar and grill.  Enjoy a game of pool on regulation tables, big game and/or latest race on the huge video screens, or any of the twenty-two (22) televisions.  Dance on weekends to the DJ, or play National Trivia Network games with the CONUS Army champs and/or just relax.

11).  Jumping Java Coffee Shop, 7950 Colorado Avenue, Bldg 660 (inside the Allen Library), (337) 531-2644, open Monday - Friday 1000-1600, closed weekends.
  Relaxing location is a perfect hideaway for catching up on your favorite book while enjoying a tasty drink or snack, or jsut hang out while the kids work on their research projects or homework.  The patio is open during seasonal weather for your Jumping Java experience.

12).  Warrior Community Center and Deli - 1321 Corp Road,

  The Community Center is currently under renovation and  undergoing extensive remodeling, however the DELI remains open for daily business for your enjoyment.  The Center will reopen in early April and will boast improved banquet rooms and facilities available for hail ahd farewells, military balls and special occasion parties as well as everyday meeting rooms to accomodate those wishing to use one of the many meeting rooms.

13).  ACS Outreach Center - 1971 17th Street, Bldg 2201, Mon - Fri 0800 - 1630, (337) 531-1895/1896.
  Classes and activities offered are: Children's Arts and Crafts Classes; Toddler Play Time Group; Cooking Classes; Waiting Spouse Adult Craft Class and Support Group.

14).  ACS Information and Referral - 1591 Bell Richard Avenue, Bldg 920, Mon-Fri 0800-1630, (337) 531-1941.  
  The ACS Information and Referral (I&R) can assist you with all your activity inquiries for Fort Polk as well as community activities.  They have an extensive information center located in the lobby of ACS, Bldg 920.    

15). ACS Volunteer Corp Coordinator, 7960 Mississippi Avenue, Bldg. 924, Mon-Fri 0830-1600, (337) 531-9421.
  Links volunteers to programs, agencies and organizations throughout the Fort Polk community providing an excellent opportunity for extra activities for those wanting to make a difference while acquiring "On Job Training".

  Youth Services sponsors a variety of family events and festivals each year that are open to the public.  Most are conducted at the Siegfried Youth Center or collaboration with major events sponsored by MWR at Fort Polk.  Always festive, to offer a variety of youth games, entertainent, food and drinks, and activities that promote the theme.  Several of the events draw well over a 1000 families and children to celebrate and enjoy the wholesome fun.  We invite parents to participate with their children and assist our staff.  
  Most of the activities are listed in our monthly calender. BASEBALL CARD and COMIC SHOWs; COMMERCIAL ENTERTAINMENT - Magic shows to disc jockeys, to live bands and even rap artists, a wide variety of performers are invited to entertain our youth.  Events are advertised on the Cable Television Information Channel, The Guardian Newspaper and flyers.  WATCH FOR THE DATES!! BINGO - play for prizes, COMPUTER AND HOMEWORK CENTER - The "Study Buddy" System, great learning environment for all youth members.  DANCES (each person must have a valid picture ID), TABLE TOURNAMENTS - Divided into age groups: billiards, foosball, pool or pingpong, to name a few, TABLE GAMES are available for checkout - Monopoly; Connect Four; Chess; Candy Land; Stratego; Scrabble; Risk; and many more, SKATING hours are posted; Group Rates Available for Private Parties, VIDEO MOVIES -'Popcorn With Your Favorite Stars", SLEEP INS - Night of dancing, games and frolic (Parents may preregister or signin until posted times), sleeping bags recommended, BUT WHO SLEEPS? FASHION SHOWS - (show includes students of all ages), "Walking Display" of fall, winter, spring, and summer styles from various retail outlets and modled by youth members.
  Sports offered seasonally include:  fall soccer and flag football, winter and summer basketball leagues, summer T-ball and baseball programs, and travel soccer in the spring.  In all sports, youth are grouped into age groups.  Some of the sports are co-ed, while others remain single gender.  The main purpose of this program is to promote sportsmanship and participation.  Volunteer coaches, team parents, and managers are always welcome.   Instructional programs for 3 and 4 year old children are offered as supplemental activities.  

TEEN DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES - Youth are invited to "Make a Difference" in the community by increasing their involvment in important issues; from drug or alcohol abuse, sexually transmitted disease awareness, gang violence, to responsibility and self confidence.  Teens select the subjects and work toward a collective goal with other teens to seek information and education on topics of their choice.

Several times a year, our youth gather locally to spend a weekend away from the installation and experience a power pack agenda of lectures, contests, activities, and other challenging games.

Local teens have traveled outside Louisiana to represent Fort Polk.
