One dentist and one hygienist provide
dental care to active duty personnel. AR 40-35 requires each soldier
to have a dental exam annually. Exams are not scheduled
automatically; soldiers should call to arrange an appointment for the annual
exam.
For active duty personnel requiring emergency dental treatment
after duty hours and during weekends and holidays, report to the emergency room,
Riverview Medical Center, Red Ban, for diagnosis and treatment.
Treatment
for Other Than Active Duty (OATD) personnel is limited to life-threatening
dental emergencies and acute trauma; for routine care, OTAD personnel must
contact their private civilian dentis.
All eligible active duty family
members, and retirees and their family members, are highly encouraged to enroll
in TRICARE Active Duty Family Member Dental Plan (FMDP) and the TRICARE Retiree
Dental Program respectively. The Dental Clinic receptionist or the
PAHC Health Benefits Advisor can provide more information about these
plans.
Medical-legal requirements dictate that children under 12 years of
age may not be left unattended in clinic waiting areas nor may they accompany a
parent who is undergoing dental treatment.
