In accordance with public laws, all public schools in the Atlanta
area provide special education services. If a child needing special
education services does not have an active Individualized Education Plan (IEP),
the school that the child would be attending will complete an evaluation and
develop an IEP to meet the child's needs. Military families are
advised to check out the services provided by any particular school prior to
settling down, to ensure the services are appropriate and adequate to meet the
child's special needs.
There are eight different programs for exceptional
children: Behavior disorders, learning disabilities, physically
handicapped, visually impaired, hospital/home bound mentally handicapped,
speech, language, and hearing interrelated. The Instructional Service
Center is within 4 miles of Fort McPherson.
