The Family Advocacy Program (FAP) is a command-directed program
providing services that focus on Soldier and Family Readiness. The
FAP mission is two sides of the same coin, all under the authority of the same
Army regulation, AR608-18. At ACS, the FAP provides quality
prevention and education programs to help soldiers and their families prevent
spouse and child abuse. Madigan Social Work Service provides the
treatment and case management services. FAP encourages the reporting
of all instances of abuse, to ensure the safety of victims, and to treat all
family members affected by or involved in abuse. The goal is to help
restore families to a healthy state. The overall program ensures
coordination between ACS, SWS and many components in the community on and off
post. FAP monitors the prevention, identification, reporting,
investigation and treatment of spouse and child abuse. ACS, FAP provides classes
on various aspects of ages and stages of child growth and development and
parenting skills that prevent child abuse. Other classes focus on
healthy relationships for soldiers and their spouses that develop skills to
prevent spouse abuse. They include classes on anger and stress
management, and marriage conflict resolution. FAP provides required
annual prevention training to all units and soldiers at Fort Lewis.
