As a new spouse to our community, employment is often a major
concern. There are several offices centrally located that may help in your
search.
The ACS Employment Readiness Program, Civilian
Personnel Advisory Center (Appropriated and Nonappropriated), Kentucky Office of
Employment and Training, and the Army Career Aliumni Program are all housed in
Bldg 1109. The Civilian Personnel Advisory Center or ACS Employment
Readiness Program are the subject matter experts on spousal
assistance.
The ACS Employment Readiness Program focuses on providing
employment assistance, information, training and referral services to
spouses. The office maintains information on job opportunities on
post and in the surrounding area; assists in resume/resumix preparation;
provides free computer skills training; career planning; and other supportive
services.
The Kentucky Office of Employment and Training
provides access to state-wide job listings, direct referrals, labor market
information, unemployment insurance assistance; and individual counseling and
assistance.
For soldiers and spouses who are transitioning from the
military, the Army Career Alumni Program and the Veterans Affairs offices are
also housed in Building 1109. ACAP assists with planning for ETS or
retirement; provides job search training; and counseling to ease the transition
from the military into private sector employment.
It may be beneficial
while you are awaiting/seeking employment that you volunteer your time and
talents to an on-post agency of interest. The Army Volunteer Corps
Coordinator may assist in placing you in one of the agencies, i.e., (Legal
Assistance, Army Community Service, Red Cross, MEDDAC, etc.). Not
only does this get you better acquainted with the installation; but it also
closes those gaps on your resume as well as counts as actual work
experience. Some agencies and private organizations pay for childcare
costs while you volunteer. So, don't just sit home until employment
finds you, come and join a team of installation volunteers. SEE AVCC
