Spouse preference for Appropriated Fund Positions is afforded
only through the DoD Priority Placement Program.
In order to be
eligible, the spouse must be already serving on an accepted appointment overseas
or on a career-conditional appointment at the time the PCS orders are
issued. The spouse must be placed on leave without pay or be
separated from his/her appointment due to PCSing in order to receive spouse
preference priority placement consideration.
Registration for departing
spouses may be accomplished 30 days prior to sponsor's reporting date at the new
duty station. An appointment for registration may be obtained by
calling the Civilian Personnel Center.
Appropriated and Non appropriated
Fund jobs at Fort Hamilton are few. However, a few job openings do become
available periodically. A new job announcement list is posted on the
MWR webpage. For a listing of APF/NAF job vacancies call the Civilian
Personnel Office.
There are numerous Federal Agencies located in New
York. Spouses should try to be put on Leave Without Pay Status, if possible, to
facilitate finding a job here. There is a large VA Hospital located
right next to Fort Hamilton, and the Federal Bureau of Prisons has a facility in
Brooklyn.
The Federal Building located at 26 Federal Plaza in
Manhattan houses numerous agencies. Check with your present agency
for New York locations or contact ACS to find out about the commute and
employment opportunities.
Federal Employees receive a special
location pay in NYC. Since Fort Hamilton is considered a small installation, on
post employment is not available in large quantities. Most family
members seek employment in the local off post communities and in New York
City.
