In Augusta, shopping is not a problem. Augusta Mall, located off of Bobby Jones Expressway on Wrightsboro Road, is the jewel of shopping in Augusta. Anchored by Sears, Rich's, Dillard's and JC Penney, Augusta Mall is the second largest mall in Georgia outside of Atlanta. Security is good, but traffic can be a problem, especially between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Many other major stores and specialty shops are located in the same area.
For those who prefer to avoid shopping malls, a new shopping and dining mecca has been created at the intersection of Wheeler Road and Bobby Jones Expressway. Stores in this area include Comp USA, Circuit City, Best Buy, Sports Authority, Old Navy, Target, and others. Restaurants include Chili's, Atlanta Bread Company, and Logan's Roadhouse. A twenty-screen theatre is also located in the area.
For convenient off-post shopping, you will find a huge Wal-Mart store on Bobby Jones Expressway just past I-20, and another one on Dean's Bridge Road at Bobby Jones Expressway. Grocery stores are everywhere, with the closest probably being on Tobacco Road, out of Gate 5.
Sales tax for both Richmond and Columbia Counties is 7%.
