Fort Meade is within 30 minutes of both Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.  There are many free and inexpensive activities for the whole family to enjoy.  Be sure to take advantage of them, as well as the numerous attractions in the communities around Fort Meade. Fort Meade is proud of having a very complete Morale, Welfare and Recreation Program.  There are a variety of exciting leisure activities available to active duty military members, their family members, and DoD civilians working on post.  Everyone is encouraged to be part of the fun and adventure by participating in organized sporting events, outdoor recreation, entertainment, crafts and many other high energy and enriching programs.  For information about activities offered, read record listings below. More information about MWR activities can be obtained by calling (301) 677-5822/DSN 622-5822. Fort Meade Youth Services plans numerous activities for all age groups.  Trips to amusement parks, roller skating, etc., are offered as well.  Classes are offered in gymnastics, tae kwon do and dance.  Many educational trips and programs are offered for all youth.  Fort Meade is conveniently situated between Baltimore and Washington, DC; this gives youth the opportunity to see wonderful museums, concerts, sporting events and other sites of interest.

Local clubs and organizations located on Fort Meade  include Boy and Girl Scouts, drama and art clubs.  Recreation and sports also include skating, gymnastics, and music lessons.

There are many things to see and do off-post.  Be sure to review the "Local Community - Activities"  section of SITES.

Child and Youth Development Services sponsor most recreation and sports programs on post.  Programs offered include:  baseball, softball, cheerleading, football, track, t-ball, basketball, clinic soccer, soccer, competitive swimming and outdoor adventure.

Leisure and recreation activities offered include: pre-teen and teen dances, art club, gymnastics, computer classes, family night out, kids night out, late night w/teens, ballet/tap/jazz, tae kwon do, young artists, teen center, arts and crafts, piano lessons, girl/boy scouts, teen and pre-teen computer lab, mobile recreation, open recreation.

Youth development programs offered include:  pre-teen and teen councils, car care clinics, cooking classes, culture crafts, essay contests, orienteering, nature trips, photo contest, bicycle safety, museum trips, drama club.

Most of the Fort Meade chapel programs run from September - May. These programs include religious education classes, children's choir, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and special events such as retreats, lock-ins, and trips.  For more information, please refer to the "Support Services - Chapel Services" section of SITES. For further information on any YS programs or special events during the year please visit the Youth Services Center, Bldg. 909, pick up a monthly calendar of events, take a tour of the facility, or call (301) 677-1437/DSN 622-1437.  The Youth Services administrative offices are open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
