January 18, 2008, FORT DRUM - A new Fort Drum shuttle service is scheduled to begin operation Feb. 1, and offer two separate routes designed to stop at all major locations on the installation's North and South post as well as Wheeler Sack Army Airfield.
Soldiers, Department of Defense civilian employees, DoD contract personnel and employees of non-DoD federal agencies on official business will be authorized to use the transport buses.
“The intent of the Post Shuttle is to give Soldiers, especially those without transportation, an alternative to get to their places of duty,” said Eric King, Fort Drum's installation transportation officer.
Off-duty military personnel or DoD employees, Reserve and National Guard members, Army Family members, retirees and visitors to the installation will be allowed seating when space is available. Family members under the age of 15 will be required to be accompanied by an adult.
The North Post route will include stops at the Pine Plains Physical Fitness Center, Drum Inn, Youth Services and Main Chapel, Guthrie Ambulatory Clinic, Clark Hall, Army modular buildings behind Hays Hall, the Heritage Center, Magrath Gym and barracks along North and South Riva Ridge Loop as well as the 10th Sustainment Brigade area.
The South Post-Wheeler Sack Army Airfield route will also begin at Pine Plains before heading to the Central Issue Facility, 10th Combat Aviation Brigade Headquarters and company areas, Light Fighter School, Battle Command Training Center, various company areas and Wilcox Dental Clinic. Riders on this route will be required to have valid military identification for transport through gates.
The post shuttle service will initially run Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except federal holidays. The service will be available on division training holidays.
