You are allowed to ship one privately owned vehicle at government
expense to or from an overseas area when permitted (some overseas areas restrict
shipment of POVs). The entitlement to ship a POV to the overseas area
and the entitlement to ship a POV from the overseas area are
separate. For the purpose of this shipment, a POV is a vehicle owned
by the soldier or a family member of the soldier (soldier/family member must
show proof of ownership/registration or lease agreement) and written approval
from the lien holder to ship the POV overseas.
Contact a counselor for
additional POV shipping information and or directions to the nearest CONUS POV
shipping point. Be advised that counseling for POV-outbound shipments
and POV storage begins at the Installation Transportation Office (ITO) nearest
where you live, or at building 5139, Fort Dix, New Jersey.
Service members assigned to POV restricted areas or deployed for 30 days
or more are entitled to storage of one (1) POV at government
expense. Orders MUST be authorizing storage. Service
members deploying from Home Station for 30 days or more should contact the
Transportation nearest their location prior to departure, for guidance on POV
storage.
