The Soldier and Family Readiness Program at Fort Carson's ACS has several very effective programs for healthy parenting.  Some programs/activities are recurring, while others are special events that occur throughout the year.  

RECURRING CLASSES

     Boot Camp For New Dads -- Discussion group that covers becoming a dad, caring for baby and caring for mom.  It is offered the 1st three Wednesdays of each month from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at The Family University, Bldg 1161.

     Breast Feeding Support Group -- Are you an expecting or nursing mom?  Would you like information on breast feeding?  This group offers breast feeding information and networking with other moms and moms-to-be who are interested in breast feeding.  This group meets every 2nd & 4th Thursdays of the month from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at The Family University, Bldg 1161.

     Cooperative Parenting & Divorce -- This class is designed to positively influence the process of divorce for both yourself & your child.  Topics discussed include redefining your relationship with your former spouse, creating a positive parenting partnership on behalf of children, managing your anger, taking control of conflict, negotiating child-friendly agreements and much more.  This class meets the 1st four Wednesdays of the month from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. at The Family University, Bldg 1161.

     Infant Massage -- Learn various massage techniques that can increase the bond between parent & baby.  Topics include systematic strokes to alleviate colic, creating strong bonds, increasing the communication between baby & parent and much more. Classes are held at The Family University, Bldg 1161.  Call ACS for dates and times.

     Nurturing Baby -- This program is for parents with infants that are 18 months or younger.  Some of the questions covered include:  Is my child developing normally?  When will he/she sleep through the night?  When do I start him/her on solids?  How long do I breast feed?  This group meets every Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The Family University, Bldg 1161.

     Nurturing 0-5 Year-Olds -- Teaches parents to be nurturing to their children as well as themselves.  Topics include communication with your child, how to build your child's self-esteem, behavior management techniques and much more.  For more information and registration information contact the Soldier & Family Readiness Program by clicking on "Contacts/Links" at left.

     Playgroup -- Parents, bring the tots and join us for an informative, fun-filled, get-together every Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon at The Family University, Bldg 1161.  No registration required.

SPECIAL EVENTS

Periodically through the year, special events are scheduled that complement our recurring parenting programs and classes.  Some of these special events include internationally recognized guest speakers and an annual Father's Day Celebration.
