Location
Fort Bragg is located just west of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Known throughout its history for its cultural diversity and military presence, today the Fayetteville area stands testament to its proud past. Many structures have been painstakingly preserved to reflect this history in four designated historic districts: Downtown Historic District, Haymount Historic District, Liberty Point National Register District and Market House Square National Register District. Fayetteville is a "Community of History, Heroes, and a Hometown Feeling". Fayetteville was one of only 10 cities in the United States in 2001 to receive the coveted "All-America City" award from the National Civic League.

History
Fort Bragg is the home of the Airborne.  For more than half a century, Fort Bragg has had a proud heritage as the Home of the Nation's Finest fighting forces.   The XVIII Airborne Corps was originally activated as the II Armored Corps at Camp Polk, LA., Jan 17, 1942.  It was redesignated XVIII Corps Oct 9, 1943 at the Presidio of Monterey, California.   The Corp's birthday is Aug 25, 1944.   The same day the XVIII Airborne Corps assumed command of the 82d and 101st Airborne Divisions.

Mission
Maintain America's Contingency Corps as a strategic crisis response force manned and trained to deploy rapidly by air, sea, and land anywhere in the world, prepared to fight upon arrival and win. Fort Bragg is the largest US Army base by population. It is known as the Home of the Airborne and Special Operation Force. Fort Bragg houses the XVIII Airborne Corps and the 82nd Airborne Division. The U.S. Army Special Operations Command and the U.S. Army Parachute Team (the Golden Knights). Fort Bragg units include the 1st Corps Support Command, 44th Medical Command, XVIII Airborne Corps Artillery, 18th Aviation Brigade, 35th Signal Brigade, and more.

Population Served
Fort Bragg serves a population of 52,280 active duty Soldiers; 12,624 Reserve Components and Temporary Duty students; 8,757 civilian employees; 3,516 Contractors; 62,962 active duty family members. There are 98,507 Army retirees and family members.

Sponsorship
If you have a pin point assignment you can request sponsorship by mailing to your gaining unit a DA Form 5434 (Sponsorship Program Counseling Information Sheet). Soldiers desiring a pin-point assignment and a sponsor to assist them upon arrival at Fort Bragg can contact Strength Management at (910) 396-9616 or 396-3966 DSN: 236-9616/3966. All in-processing soldiers E-6((P) and above must report to the Welcome Center at the Soldier Support Center, Bldg 4-2843, Normandy Street, phone number (910) 907-2026 or 907-2027, DSN: 337-2026/2027. The Welcome Center is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Soldiers E-6 and below will in-process at the 19th Replacement facility, Bldg 4-2245 (same vicinity as the Soldier Support Center), Normandy Street. Soldiers assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division will report to the 82nd AG Replacement Detachment, Bldg C-8750 on the corner of Lae and Ardennes Street Phone number (910) 432-4000 DSN: 239-4000.

Fort Bragg Post Office does not give P.O. Boxes in advance because of the high demand. Neither 19th Replacement nor 82nd Replacement will hold mail for personnel enroute to the installation. However you can go to your local Post Office to obtain a box number application "PS form 1093" for a local post office off the installation. Spring Lake Post Office is recommended as it is located next to the installation. Fill out the application and enclose $26.00 for six months plus $1.00 for each key and send a check or money order to the Postmaster. You can get the Postmaster address and telephone number from your local Post Office. Allow 5 to 7 days for delivery and then call the Post Office to obtain your box number. Temporary Quarters
Airborne Inn Lodging facilities are open to military personnel (all ranks/grades), their family members, guests, and retired military and their guests. You can make advance reservations up to 6 months ahead of time. Incoming PCS personnel may occupy guest house facilities up to 30 days without loss of BAQ.  Outgoing personnel may occupy guest house facilities up to 10 days. Standard Rates are - $39.00 + $3.00 for each additional person per day for all ranks.   Note: You are required to pay in advance for 7 days upon check-in.  For information, call (910) 396-7700 DSN: 236-7700. Relocation Assistance
The Newcomers Welcome and Orientation Briefing are held on Wednesday morning at 0800 in the Soldier's Memorial Hall, Soldier Support Center, Bldg. 4-2843, Normandy Drive.  A special briefing for spouses is held in conjunction with the orientation. A bus tour of Fort Bragg is included.

The Lending Closet is for families PCS-ing to or from Fort Bragg. Soldier/family members may borrow basic household items for a designated period of time while waiting shipment of household goods. Telephone number: (910)396-6013 DSN: 236-6013.

The Airborne Attic provides Soldiers and family members E4 and below items of furniture, household goods and clothing free of charge.  Telephone number: (910) 907-2842 DSN: 337-2842.

Critical Installation Information
Fort Bragg is a restricted access base. All persons 16 years and above entering the base are required to show a picture identification.

Fort Bragg regulations prohibit the use of cell phones while operating a motor vehicle, except with the use of a hands-free device.

All active duty military personnel (including allied officers) and their family members assigned to Fort Bragg, DA/DoD civilians employed by Fort Bragg, local Reserve and National Guard members, and contractors working on Fort Bragg must register their privately owned vehicles (POVs) driven on Fort Bragg.

 Wearing portable headphones, earphones, or other listening devices while operating a motor vehicle is prohibited.

The use of radar or laser detection devices to indicate the presence of speed recording instruments or to transmit simulated erroneous speeds is prohibited.
