Habitat for Humanity of El Paso, Texas
Habitat for
Humanity of El Paso is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity
International, an ecumenical housing consortium that has built or renovated more
than 30,000 houses for low-income families across the world. In El
Paso, Habitat for Humanity has been active since 1987
during which time 13
families have been housed. Habitat for Humanity of El Paso has been
engaged in projects in the Northeast and the Lower Valley and is working to form
programs in the colonias of El Paso and
Juarez, Mexico.
A Hand Up,
Not a Hand-Out
Like the more than 1000 Habitat programs in 45 nations
across the world, Habitat for Humanity of El Paso provides simple decent houses
for families in need. Houses are built or rehabilitated using as much
volunteer labor and donated materials as possible. Houses are then
sold
to families in need at no profit and zero interest. Families
pay off their houses over a twenty year period. Included in the cost
of a house is the sweat equity requirement in which homeowners are asked to
participate in the construction of their own house and the homes of other
Habitat families.
How you can help
Habitat for Humanity relies
on the involvement of local communities. In El Paso, we need your
help to serve on committees. Fundraising and construction are two
never-ending tasks of our organization. Stop by their or call office to get
involved.
