Fort Bliss Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) maintain the many recreation facilities on post. As part of that responsibility, MWR strives to provide a diverse selection of recreational programs and activities for the soldiers, family members, and civilians at Fort Bliss. Sometimes, there are individuals who want to participate in a sport, which is not currently offered on post. That's where the newly implemented Recreation Delivery System (RDS) Program steps in.RDS is geared toward providing the finest opportunities, services, facilities, equipment and experiences which contribute to the health, well being, development and education of the Fort Bliss community through involvement in recreation, leisure and cultural activities. Essentially, RDS means finding a way to offer recreational opportunities that people want to participate in, through an effective and efficient use of resources. MWR cannot always provide all the activities on post that patrons are interested in participating in, due to budget constraints, personnel, etc. Instead, through RDS, they can be the link for those interested persons to access available opportunities and programs within the community. MWR is currently scouting the area to find all that the El Paso area has to offer in recreational activities. Go to Bliss MWR website to read about experiences and activities offered in the Fort Bliss Area.

The Youth Skateboard Park consists of a 10,000 sq. ft concrete slab, perimeter fencing, and the installation of the skateboard park elements: a 6 foot half-pipe, kink rail, straight rail, fly box with ledge, 3 foot launch ramp, street spine and a bank ramp. Steel was chosen for the construction material because of its durability and will hold up to the conditions of the hot and dry desert. Because of the extreme El Paso heat, the steel was painted in bright cool colors to reduce the surface temperature and create a visual interest for participants. Youth Services already had a small portable structure across from the site that was used for concessions for outside activities. It was converted to an issue point for protective gear, skateboards and roller blades. Construction cost for the project was held to under 60K complete. Future plans for the Skateboard Park include the installation of a shade structure for spectators and skating lessons.
