In addition to Federal jobs, there are non-appropriated fund
(NAF) jobs available on the installation.
Spouses of active duty military
members of the U.S. Army Forces including U.S. Coast Guard and full time
National Guard may be eligible to register in the DoD Military Spouse Preference
Program for consideration for temporary and permanent position located at Fort
Benning. Information regarding eligibility requirements and
registration procedures is available by calling the Civilian Personnel Advisory
Center.
Appropriated (APF) and Non-appropriated (NAF) fund jobs at Fort
Benning are few due to the military rightsizing; however, a few job openings do
become available each week. The jobs available are listed in the Employment
Readiness Job list. Job opening information can also be obtained by
visiting their office in Bldg 6 or by going to the web site.
Military
spouses may be eligible for preference in some Department of Defense (DOD)
hiring. DoD has directed NAF Personnel Offices to give employment preference to
spouses of active duty military members of the Armed Forces who are relocating
because of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) Orders. To be eligible
for preference, the spouse must have entered into marriage with the military
sponsor before the military sponsor received official orders authorizing the PCS
relocation. If the sponsor's orders are for training purposes, the training must
be considered long term, i.e. 12 months or more. Employment
preference cannot be given if the sponsor's training period at Fort Benning is
less than 12 months. Eligible spouses must request preference when
they submit DA Form 3433, "Application of Employment-NAFI. The NAF
application must include a copy of the sponsor's PCS orders and a completed
"Certification of Eligibility for Spouse Preference". A NAF
application packet will be required each time the spouse applies for a
position. Eligibility begins 30 days prior to the sponsor's official
reporting date to Fort Benning. Once a spouse has used spouse
preference to obtain a NAF position at Fort Rucker, they lose their eligibility
until the military sponsor receives new PCS orders.
Spouse preference for
APF positions is afforded only through the DoD Priority Placement
Program. In order to be eligible, the spouse must be serving on an
excepted appointment overseas or on a career or career-conditional appointment
at the time the PCS orders are issued. The spouse must be placed on
leave without pay or be separated from their appointment due to PCS in order to
receive spouse preference priority placement
consideration. Registration for departing spouses may be accomplished
30 days prior to sponsor's reporting date at the new duty
station.
Family members can use spouse preference when
applying for jobs at AAFES. To be eligible for AAFES spouse
preference, you will need to have your Social Security card and your military ID
card. Most positions at AAFES are part-time.
