Anchorage suffers from a shortage of three and four bedroom
rental units. First termers with a family or are newly wed need to
arrive debt free if possible. Housing costs may be higher than their
BAH allowances. Average rental rates are $900/2 bed room, $1,350/3
bed room, $1,800/4 bed room, $1,900+/5 bed room (when available) and $1600+ for
a 3 or 4 bedroom house.
NOTE: Many landlords do not allow
pets. When/if they do the pet deposits are quite
high. Many newcomer's, with pets, end up purchasing a home in order
