The Family Advocacy Program's (FAP) mission is to provide
education and services to support family health; to support new parents; to
identify and educate families with special needs; and to prevent or treat
child/spouse abuse.
The New Parent Support Program works with expectant
families and families who have a child up to age three. The program
provides education and intervention in the areas of parenting, child
development, communication, stress management, etc. A social worker,
nurse and administrative assistant manage the program. Home visits
can be conducted at the convenience of the family for those who
qualify.
New Parent Support Program provides infant car seats and booster
seats to those who qualify, as well as car seat safety checks.
Family
Maltreatment Program identifies, assesses and provides treatment to families
experiencing violence. All active duty members and civilian personnel
are required to report suspected family violence to the Family Advocacy
Program
The Special Needs Identification and Assignment Coordination
Process, formerly Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP), identifies family
members with special physical, emotional, medical, or educational needs and
coordinates appropriate assignments. All active duty personnel with
family members with special needs are required to
enroll. Assignments, to include reassignments and deferments, are
coordinated through this office to ensure the family is assigned to a location
that has services to meet their needs. The Special Needs office can
also provide information on military and community resources to help families
transitioning to new locations.
FAP Outreach Program addresses
educational needs of the base community concerning the prevention of domestic
violence. The social worker can provide training/briefings to base
personnel on issues of healthy dating, stress management, and recognizing the
warning signs of domestic violence. Outreach services include
Parenting, Couple's Communication, and Anger Management classes, Parent and
Infant/Toddler play groups and a Rebuilding Group for people experiencing
separation/divorce.
