Most people seeking employment are able to find some type of
work. Employment for spouses on the installation can be hard to find but if you
are willing to travel to Fairbanks the possibilities are much greater. The
Fairbanks area unemployment rate as of March 2004 is 6.9%. Certain
job areas have more openings and availability than others.
GOOD
PROSPECTS:
Laborers, Retail, Small Business, Food Services, Heavy
Equipment Operators, Automotive. Also, there are excellent prospects for Medical
Workers.
FAIR PROSPECTS:
Welder, Clerical, Building Trades,
(Electrical, Plumbing, Carpenters) and Accounting.
POOR
PROSPECTS:
Computers. Limited State and Federal
positions.
Wages in Alaska are usually 10-25% higher than comparable jobs
from CONUS.
