Recreation:
Alaska offers a wide variety of outdoor
activities for everyone. From the famous Alaskan hunting and fishing to the wild
and rugged backcountry, Alaska offers wild and scenic rivers for rafting or
canoeing, wildlife viewing, bird watching, hiking, camping, gold panning, and
much more. The recreational opportunities are limitless in Alaska any
time of the year. Of course, summer is the most popular time to
engage in these activities. After that long trip, you'll be ready to settle in
and embark on a new phase of Air Force life at its farthest-north installation.
Adapting to life here may be challenging for some, but will ultimately prove to
be most interesting and rewarding. Check out what the 354 Services Squadron has
to offer to keep you busy! Join the Fun!!!
Sporting:
A wealth of
recreation and sports is available to everyone who comes to
Alaska. Sports offered through the schools and the local community
include: baseball, t-ball, softball, soccer, football, basketball and
volleyball. Fishing, swimming, mountain climbing, dog mushing, ice
skating, hockey -you name it and we have it. The Youth
Centers at both Eielson and Fort Wainwright offer a variety of programs. There
are also sport leagues that compete throughout the year. Hockey
leagues are available to all age groups. Baseball, softball, and
T-ball are big during the summer months. If you have never played baseball under
the Midnight Sun, you are in for a treat!

Civic Organization:
The Alaska Training & Recreational
Activities for Cool Kids (aka TRACKS) Program is a collaboration between the
Eielson Family Advocacy Office, the Family Support Center, the Family Member
Programs' Flight, and the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension
Service. Implemented
in 1999, the TRACKS Program offers innovative
camp-based programs to youth in grades 3 through 8. The camps are
designed to expose youth to Alaska-specific activities while also instilling
positive decision-making
skills. Traditionally, the TRACKS Program
conducts 4-6 camp programs per year. The TRACKS Program is proud to
offer courses in team building and positive communication on a newly constructed
Team Development Course. While the Team Development Course is geared
specifically for youth
audiences, it is open for use by adults as well.
Additionally, the TRACKS Program boasts Ice Sculpting Frenzies each winter and
an annual youth mock
deployment, Operation Bug Out, each
summer. For more information on the Alaska TRACKS Program, please
call (907) 377-5191.
Eielson has a full scope of Girl and Boy Scout
troops. All troops are very active and provide many opportunities for learning,
social interaction trip planning and just plain fun.
