There are excellent High Schools in the communities surrounding
Eglin AFB the closest of which are Niceville and Ft. Walton Beach as well as
other nearby communities. Please refer to contacts for additional specific

Niceville High School offers online
counseling. Please check the contacts/links under the Eglin SITES topic for
Education: Local Community: Niceville High School contact Web site. The
Niceville High School Online Counseling Center offers information here regarding
college selection and application, career selection and planning, financial aid,
testing and study skills, and general information . The Student Services
department is providing and maintaining the site in the hope that it
will be a useful resource for parents and students alike. The other local high
schools offer similar activities. Niceville HS has an excellent Air Force ROTC
program. The school offers a vast array of sports ranging from football to
swimming and weightlifting. There are 30+ clubs at the school.

Advance Placement
Scholars Curriculum
The Niceville High School Advance Placement Scholars
Program is one of the curriculum components in the Accelerated Programs of
Study. Advanced Placement is a program of college-level courses and exams that
gives high school students the opportunity to receive advanced placement and/or
credit in college. AP Examinations are administered in May after students have
completed the AP courses and are graded on a 5-point scale (5 is the highest).
Students may earn high school and college credit simultaneously by successfully
completing these courses and by scoring a 3 or better on the AP exam.
International Baccalaureate Scholars Curriculum
The International
Baccalaureate Scholars Institute (IBSI) is one of the curriculum options in the
Accelerated Programs of Study. The IB Program is a demanding pre-university
course of study that leads to examinations. The program requires students to
take courses in languages, math, science, and humanities, all of which culminate
in exams, during the junior and senior year. In addition, students must complete
a 4000-word Extended Essay, pass Theory of Knowledge, and complete 150 hours in
a Creativity, Action, and Service component.
Candidates for the IB program
apply at the middle school in the second semester of eighth grade.
Requirements for admission into the IB Institute in the Accelerated Program
of Study:
Completion of Algebra I in the 8th grade
A total test battery
composite (CTBS, CAT, IOWA, etc.) at the 85th percentile

Endorsement for Math and Science Curriculum
The Academic Excellence
Endorsement for Math and Science Curriculum is one of the curriculum components
in the Meritorious Program of Study. The program is designed for academically
motivated and dedicated students. The students qualify for this academic diploma
endorsement by achieving a cumulative 3.0 UGPA after four years in honors or
higher English, math and science courses and three years in honors or higher
social studies.
Information Technology Institute
The Okaloosa County
School District is proud to announce the initiation of the Information
Technology (IT) Institute at NHS beginning the fall of 2004. The IT Institute is
a learning community based on business partnerships that focuses on student
development and increased performance, college preparation, and career
readiness. Considering that eight of the ten fasting growing career fields are
IT, this institute provides an excellent opportunity for students to prepare for
their future.
Eagles Institute
Exceptional Achievements Generate
Lifelong Educational Success- The EAGLES program is an evening school for those
students who are not on track to graduate with their class and would like to
follow a performance-based plan. Students are granted the same privileges as NHS
seniors so that they may still choose to participate in senior activities such
as prom, senior trip, and graduation. The EAGLES program hours are 2:15 - 5:30
p.m., Monday through Friday.

Computer Assisted Performance Education (CAPE)
CAPE is a
performance-based curriculum opportunity for 12th grade students who do not have
the required credits to graduate with their designated graduating class.
