Supporting the Relocation, Travel, and Lifestyle Needs of the American Military Family

Primary and special preventative care services are provided at the 95th Medical Group, Edwards AFB.  There are no intensive care or obstetrics services.  Patients experiencing urgent/critical illnesses or injuries will be referred downtown or to another military facility.  It is very important for military families to become informed of the TRICARE (formerly CHAMPUS) programs available, namely TRICARE Prime, Extra and Standard.  The TRICARE representatives at the TRICARE Service Center can provide program information and assistance.  NOTE:  The medical group is closed the 3rd Wednesday of every month from 1300-1630 for medical readiness activities.  The Emergency Room is open.  There is no after hours emergency room available at the clinic.  On-site obstetrics delivery is no longer offered.  Patients are referred to local hospitals 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. EAFB has the only fully operating paramedic level ambulance service in DoD; our ambulance service meets civilian community standards.
For family members traveling out of the area, you should call the TRICARE "800" number to get authorization; if it's a life threatening emergency, call 911 and seek immediate care.
For active duty traveling outside the area, you should call 661-277-7118 for authorization for routine or urgent medical care.
If you live downtown (family member or active duty) or seek care downtown and are enrolled with the base clinic (all active duty members are enrolled with the base clinic), you should call the on-call doctor first (661-277-7118).
Two ambulance crews are on duty 24 hours/day, 7 days a week, located at the clinic-one primary and one backup crew.  Each crew has one paramedic and one emergency medical technician.
Paramedics will assess patients on-scene, provide necessary care and determine if transfer is warranted.



Medical clinics operate by appointment at 661-277-7718 and their hours are 0730-1630, with Pediatrics and Family Practice Clinics open evenings until 2000 Monday through Thursday, along with a Saturday clinic operating from 0900 to 1200. Tricare Prime enrollees requiring urgent medical needs have access to a primary care manager 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The Dental Squadron at Edwards AFB is authorized 9 general dentists to provide comprehensive dental care for the active duty members assigned to the Air Force Flight Test Center and geographically separated units.  Treatment required that is beyond the scope of our care is generally referred to San Diego Naval Dental Center, which has been designated our TRICARE Dental Lead Agent.

Active duty personnel seeking routine care may call the dental appointments desk M-F at 661-277-2872/3396, DSN 527-3872/3396, or call 7-2872/3396 from on base.  For emergency care during duty hours, report to Dental Sick Call, M-F, 0715-1245 hrs. After hours emergency care is available by the Dental Officer of the Day (DOD) who is on call and will be contacted by Emergency Room personnel.  All active duty personnel receive a periodic/annual dental examination and a cleaning at the same visit.  Subsequent care will be on an appointment basis.  Appointments are considered mandatory formation and "broken appointments" are reported to the patient's commander.

Family members are not authorized routine dental care at the base clinic.  Dental care for non-active duty is limited to emergency relief of acute dental pain or trauma.
