A wide variety of programs are available through the Navy Youth
Program managed by the Morale, Welfare and Recreation
Department. Primary programs include sports and fitness, before and
after school programs, recreational/social activities and skills, day camps,
teen programs and personal development classes. Programs are
supervised and directed by a staff of qualified recreation
professionals. Activities are designed to be fun and to promote
physical fitness, encourage creativity and develop lifelong recreation
skills.
The Before and After School Program (BASP) is designed to meet
the needs of school-aged youth in the hours before and after
school. Organized and supervised recreation activities are planned
and conducted at specific times before and after regular school
hours. Attendance is closely monitored at all
times. Parents/guardians are required to sign the youth into and out
of the program on a daily basis. A ratio of one staff member to
fifteen children is rigidly enforced.
During the summer the Before and
After School Program is replaced with a day camp program. The day
camp program is offered for youth between the ages of 6 and 12 (older teens may
be included as teen leaders). Day camp activities include arts and
crafts, sports, games, swimming, field trips, outdoor recreation, nature walks,
cultural programs and special events.
