Georgia is home to a wonderful pre-k program. The Georgia
Prekindergarten Program was established in 1993 to provide Georgia's
four-year-old children with high quality preschool experiences. This unique
program, funded by the GA Lottery for Education, will serve about 63,500
children this school year. With this statewide pre-k program, GA reaches a
higher proportion of four-year-olds than any other state in the
nation.
Children four years of age on September 1st of the current school
year are eligible to attend the GA Pre-K Program. The Program is voluntary for
both families and communities. Because participation in the Pre-K Program is
voluntary on the part of public schools and private child development centers,
there may not be enough spaces in every communnity for all children who wish to
participate. It is advised to contact your local school system or private
pre-school providers to learn where programs are offered in your community and
how to enroll your children. You may also call or visit the website for the GA
Office of School Readiness for listings.
