MASSACHUSETTS DRIVER'S LICENSE:
To obtain a MA driver's
license, you are not required to take a driver's test or a written exam if you
have a valid
License issued in the United States or Canada.
License
fees: Cost is from $40.00-$60.00 depending on Class. Out
of State Conversion fees are $90.00-$110.00.
Renewal fees are
$40.00-60.00. Written test/Permit is
$30.00.
INSURANCE:
Must maintain minimum insurance required by the
state of
MA. Allstate or GEICO coverage is not available. As part
of the registration process, MA requires every vehicle on the road to be covered
by minimum levels of motor vehicle insurance. Cost of insurance is
high.
REGISTRATION:
If you have already paid sales tax in another
state you should not pay it again when you register your vehicle in
MA. Fill out an Affidavit in Support for Exemption or Use Tax for a
Motor Vehicle Purchased Outside of Massachusetts
(MVU-29)
Registration
Fees: Issue $25.00 for Auto Home, $20.00 for
motorcycles. Renewal $30.00 for Auto Home, $25.00 for
motorcycle.
MINIMUM AGE FOR DRIVERS:
Minimum age for drivers is 17
unless driver's education is taken which puts age to 16 1/2. All new
drivers 16 1/2-18 years of age are considered to have a Junior Operator's
Driver's License. This means that they may not carry passengers who
are under 18 years old unless they are siblings or operate a vehicle between the
hours of 12:00 A.M.-5:00 A.M. unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian
21 years of age.
YEARLY INSPECTIONS:
The cost of an inspection
sticker is $29.00 yearly.
MANDATORY SEAT BELT Law:
A $25.00 fine
for each person not wearing seat belt.
