Virginia State Laws apply on Dahlgren military installation. The law requires that children under 4 years or less than 36 inches tall must be secured in a safety seat and children 4-16 years of age must be secured in a safety belt.  On base, ALL vehicle occupants must wear safety belts.

Vehicle Registration Procedures:  The term vehicle includes motorcycles, automobiles, trailers, vans, and boats regularly parked or garaged overnight in Virginia. A valid Dept of Defense decal is the required identification for vehicles owned or leased by military, tenant, civilian and contractor personnel.  Requirements for registration are:  Valid State Operator's license, Valid State Vehicle Registration, and Proof of Insurance.

Motorcyclists will be issued a 90-day temporary registration to allow time to complete a motorcycle safety course.  Once completed, proof of completion must be presented at the Pass and ID Office.

Resident Stickers are available for all military personnel residing on station.  This official base resident sticker negates the requirement to obtain a King George County decal for privately owned vehicles.

Bicycle Registration:  Bicycles should be registered at the Pass and ID Office during normal office hours.  All persons riding a bicycle must wear an approved helmet. Note - Bicycles, Roller Skates, Roller Blades and Skateboards operated on base roads will comply with the same rules as motor vehicles or motorcycles.  Owners may register their bicycles at the Pass and Identification Office (Bldg 195) and be issued a decal to facilitate recovery of the bicycle in the event it is stolen.  This office can provide you more information on safety measures for bikes, skateboards and roller blades.

For more information on installation vehicle regulations, contact the Base Pass and ID Office.
