A car is a must in the Dahlgren area; there is no public
transportation system available to get to Dahlgren Navy Base. Recommend you
contact your reporting Command listed under "Major Units" for official travel
assistance if needed.
Transportation from
Airports:
Washington DC's regional airports are located about
70 miles north of Dahlgren. There is no bus service available from
the airport to Dahlgren. If you need transportation, be sure to let
your sponsor or your command know before you depart your present
location. Commercial transportation, i.e., taxis/rental cars is
available at the airport.
AMTRAK train station is in Fredericksburg,
Virginia about 29 miles west of Dahlgren. There is no public
transportation from the train station to Dahlgren, but taxi service is available
for approximately $60.
There is one car rental agency, Enterprise, in the
Dahlgren/King George area at (540) 663-2244, and there are a number of rental
car agencies in Fredericksburg, VA.
Commuting Times:
For those of
you who may consider living in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area and
commuting to Dahlgren each day, please be aware that commuter travel on
Interstate 95 north and south between Dahlgren and Washington D.C. is one of the
most difficult and time consuming commutes in the nation. Driving
during peak commuter travel hours in the early morning and early evening can
take up to 2 hours or more.
