The Division of Family Services part of the Virginia Department
of Social Services is composed of four units dedicated to children and families:
Adoptions, Adult Services, Child Protective Services and Foster Care/Family
Preservation. The division's programs are designed to address those who are most
in need. We balance the role of providing effective intervention, when
necessary, and emphasizing personal responsibility with ensuring the safety,
stability and well being for the most vulnerable of our populations. The
programs of the Department of Social Services are state supervised and locally
administered. The division programs operated at the local level are:

The King George
Department of Social Services and the Fredericksburg Department of Social
Services provides programs that range from social and recreational activities to
the direct support of essential services, such as nutrition, health, and in-home
services for families, children, and seniors. Both the King George
Department of Social Services and the Fredericksburg Department of Social
Services can also assist with Head Start information and services.
