EMPLOYMENT OPTIONS
Employment in the local Dahlgren community
is very competitive due to a low turnover rate of employees, requirement for
highly specialized jobs. Types of jobs in the Dahlgren community are with DoD
contractors that support the research and development mission of the Naval
Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren. Examples of such jobs are:

King George County Public Schools has employment
opportunities within the school system. Their employment application
procedure includes a Certified Professional Application packet or Support
Positions Application packet. Both packets include a checklist for
applicants, a four-page employment application, and reference
forms. Teacher salaries range from Step 1 $33,000 to Step 30
$53,885. Paraprofessional public school salaries range from Step 1

EMPLOYMENT
AGENCIES
Employment agencies can help place qualified employees with
companies that need manpower. These agencies can usually be found
under the yellow pages of any phone book under "employment" or "temp
agencies". Employment agencies have candidates fill out a general
application. In addition, you need to bring your resume and other
relevant employment information. When you set up an appointment, you
may expect to set aside time for completing the application, an interview and
some skills tests. Always check with an employment agency to see who
pays the fees. Examples of fees
are: Contingency-Employment agencies where the fees are paid by the
employer and Employment Consultant agencies where the fees are paid by the
applicant.

NETWORKING
Networking is an
ideal way to make the job search easier. The first step is to contact
the Spouse Employment Counselor at the Fleet and Family Support Center at your
gaining installation. Your sponsor can also be used as a networking
resource. If you know military families that are already stationed at
your gaining installation, contact them. If you are a member of a
professional organization or your present employer has contacts at your gaining
installation, don't hesitate to use these contacts to network into your next
employment community.
FFSC SPOUSE EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE SERVICES
The
Spouse Employment Counselor at the Fleet & Family Support Center is an
excellent resource for locating employment assistance in the local
community.
FFSC TRANSITION ASSISTANCE SERVICES
The Fleet
and Family Support Center Transition Assistance Management Program assists
active duty military members with employment resources and job search services.
Employment informational resources used by the Transition Office are also
available to spouses.
