ELEMENTARY EDUCATION
King George County's three elementary
schools are well equipped, air-conditioned facilities serving nearly 1700
students in pre-K through grade six. Each school has the latest
technology including classroom computers, separate computer labs, fully equipped
media center, art room, music room and gymnasium. All classes are
heterogeneously grouped for instruction with an emphasis on the core academic
areas of language arts and math, integrated with science and social
students. Students also receive quality instruction in physical
education, health, art and music, as well as instruction from the media
specialist.
COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD
The King George County Public
School Board serves approximately 3,000 students within the school board
system.
The Virginia Standards of Learning provides the framework for what is
taught at each grade level in all of the schools in King George
County. Each child is viewed as being unique with individual
interests and differences. Curriculum and instruction is designed to
meet the needs of the students it serves.
ACCREDITATION
In
King George County Public Schools there are three elementary schools, one middle
school and one high school. Three of the five schools are fully
accredited by the Virginia Department of Education Board.
PUPIL/TEACHER
RATIO
Low pupil teacher ratios help to facilitate differentiated instruction
for students at each grade level in the King George County Public
Schools. The student teacher ratio is 13:1.
GRADING
SYSTEM
The grading scale is 94-100(A), 86-93(B), 77-85(C), 70-76(D), and 69
and below (F).
BUS SERVICE
Bus service is available to all students
living off base to their designated school zone. High School students
living on base will travel by bus to the community high school.

REGISTRATION
To register
students, call the school you believe your child will attend, schedule an
appointment and then take along a birth certificate, proof of immunization and
physical exam, proof of residency and social security number. To
enter kindergarten, a child must turn five on or before 30
September. The school year is from early September to
mid-June.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
Potomac and Sealston Elementary
Schools have the only After-School program in King George County School
System. The program is located in the elementary schools but managed
by the Parks and Recreation Department. Program fees: $40 a week from
3:30 to 5:30 in the school gymnasium. Program structure is free time,
snack time, homework time, and structured activity after
homework. Registration is first-come for up to 25 students (including
special needs students). Forms and immunization documents must be
completed at registration. Students are supervised at all
times.
GIFTED AND TALENTED
SERVICES
The King George County School Division provides special services to
students in grades K-12 identified as gifted or
talented.
SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS
A child with a
disability is eligible for special education and related services to meet the
unique needs of a child with a disability. It includes instruction, at no cost
to the parent, conducted in a classroom home, hospital, institution, or other
setting. It also includes instruction in physical education. For a
child to be found eligible, a disability must affect his or her educational
performance.
