The following information provides a profile of childcare options available on the base.  It is essential that you contact the Child Development Center as listed for the most current information about specific programs.

Before arrival in Dahlgren, you may call for information regarding the placement of your child on the waiting list for childcare.  If you are interested in Child Home care (in home), you may pick up the list of providers who have openings at the Child Development Center.

The Child Development Program offers full-time care.  Children are grouped according to age:  infants, toddlers, twos, threes, fours and fives.  The daily schedule is divided into active and quiet playtime and is designed to support the child's most important years of growth and learning.  Children who stay at the centers will have the opportunity to establish and maintain friendships and become responsible for their actions through self-discipline. Art and music activities, and units on number recognition, holidays, seasons, health, safety, and family structure allow children to develop language, math, and social skills.

Eligibility enrollment is open on a space available basis to military in the infant, toddler and preschool rooms.  Civilians are eligible for enrollment on a space available basis in the preschool room.

Rates for childcare at the Child Development Center are based on total family income.  Those will be determined when you come into the center to talk with the childcare specialists. Family Child Care is available through the Child Development Center for infants 6 weeks to five years old.

Children in the Child Home Care Provider program are able to experience a warm, family environment in a provider's home.  Thus, they can build a trusting relationship with a provider who will foster their curiosity and creativity, provide guidance, and give them the hugs they need!  The flexibility of rates and hours of operation are tailored to the special needs of military families.  All child home care providers meet Navy childcare licensure requirements.

Rates for home childcare are based on several factors.  One of those is the age of the child.  The amount you will pay will be determined when you arrange for the care.
Keep in mind that this is a constantly changing program so call frequently to get the latest information.

You can call the center and get a list of the childcare providers available.  However, keep in mind that the list of providers changes frequently and you may not know which of the three housing areas you will want to leave your child in.  Those factors will be determined after you arrive.
