SPECIAL NEEDS/EFM ISSUES

The EFM Program is a mandatory enrollment program per OPNAVINST 1751.2 (series) that identifies long term medical and special educational needs of family members and ensures assignment consierations of those needs when transferring.  

To ensure special needs of family members are considered during the assignment process, service members are required to enroll when the special needs are identified at least nine months prior to Projection Rotation Date (PRD).  This provides your detailer time to work your next assignment and consier your family member's special needs as well as your career needs and the Navy's needs.  

This program is open to any authorized family member who meets the following criteria:  Physical, emotional, or other disability, and/or long term chronic illness, and /or long term special educational needs.  The family member must be enrolled in DEERS and reside with the sponsor.

Personnel arriving with an Exceptional Family Member should contact the EFMP office upon arrival.  Appointments are required.
